Flappy RDSTR: a free pixel flappy game with a fan-car roadster
Flappy RDSTR is a free Game Boy Color style flappy game that runs in your browser. You steer a futuristic wedge-shaped roadster through gaps between red-lit truss towers in a night-time arena. The car launches from a curved ramp and stays in the air with cold-gas thrusters.
How to play
- Tap anywhere, click, or press Space: cold-gas thrust pulse.
- Hold the button, or hold X: fan grip locks your altitude while fan energy lasts.
- Fly through the gap between each pair of towers to score a point.
- Collect RDSTR plates to refill the fan and unlock cars in the garage.
- Every 10 points you climb 1000 m. At 4000 m the thin air costs the fans about a third of their grip.
- Medals: bronze at 5 points, silver at 15, gold at 30, platinum at 50.
The cars
- RDSTR Performance: suction fans pull the car onto the road even at a standstill.
- RDSTR Thrust: rear cold-gas thrusters for 0 to 100 km/h in under a second.
- RDSTR Rocket: nozzles around the body for thrust forward, up and sideways.
- Chaparral 2J (1970): Can-Am fan car with two fans and Lexan skirts, banned after one season.
- Brabham BT46B (1978): Formula 1 fan car that won its only race, the Swedish Grand Prix, with Niki Lauda.
- GMA T.50: Gordon Murray's supercar with a 40 cm rear fan instead of a big wing.
- McMurtry Speirling: electric single-seater with about 2000 kg of downforce at a standstill.
The technology behind the game
Fan cars use active ground effect. Fans suck air from a sealed area under the car, so the higher air pressure above pushes the car down. Unlike wings, this works from 0 km/h, which helps most in slow corners and under braking. The new roadster combines this with an electric drive, active wings and cold-gas thrusters. The game turns those three ideas into its mechanics: thrust to fly, fan grip to hold, thin air at altitude.
Where it runs
Phones, tablets, desktop browsers and the Tesla centre screen. It is a portrait game like Flappy Bird and can be installed as an app. No ads, no sign-up. Independent fan project, not affiliated with Tesla, Inc.
